Strength Training the 4th Discipline

Image
Triathletes cannot live by swim, bike, run training alone.  To be successful as a triathlete you have to add another discipline... strength training.    There are many benefits to strength training.  Help prevent injury Increase performance Become stronger by increasing muscle mass Improve bone density slowing down bone loss Improve overall quality of life For many reasons athletes neglect this area in their training routine. Some may feel strength training is only for the elite, others may feel they have to have special equipment or belong to a gym or they may not know where to start.     Strength training is for everyone, not just the elite.  If you walk this earth you can benefit from some form of strength training.  You do not need special equipment, you would be surprised the results you can get from using a yoga mat and your own body weight.  Squats Side Lunges Planks Crunches Push-ups Check out t...

Quit Apologizing

Quit apologizing for your race times. It does not matter how fast you ran or why you may have ran slower than expected, that is not what running is about. The important thing is that you ran and finished! You did more that what most have done. You have stepped out and taken the initiative to do something healthy and whole for your body! No matter what time you ran your race, you may have inspired someone, so QUIT apologizing for your time and saying I could have done better if it was not for this or that. Once you start saying things like that you automatically negate what you had done. So be proud of a 8 min or your 15 min mile and keep on keeping on!!!! Congrats everyone!!!!!

Running Through Pain

Run through the annoyance and stop at the pain.  A friend of mine told me that one day and I always have it in the back of my mind. Annoyance yes, pain no! I always hated the saying "No Pain No Gain", people think it has to hurt to work not true. Pain is a signal that somethings not right. Pain awakens us so we can evaluate the real deal. Don't keep running with the pain or through the pain, don't medicate the pain, evaluate the cause of the pain. Sometimes that means we have to stop and take a few steps back or even start over. If we don't stop at the pain, eventually it will stop us. We wont be able move4word because of the damage we have cause to ourselves believing we can deal with the pain. When we don't stop at pain, we never get a chance to look at where something went wrong for the pain to start. Lack of preparation, bad training(partners/advice), bad habits, bad form, old accessories... the list goes on. I have only to learn to stop at p...

Get that extra person off you!

People it's time to get REALLY serious about your lifestyle.  It saddens me that I see so many people take advantage of their bodies.  We are marvelous creatures that are wonderfully made in the image of our creator.  Our bodies are awesome machines and can take a beating so much better than some of the best constructed man made machines.  Our bodies adapt and adjust to our lifestyles so that we can keep LIVING!  We are one of the fattest countries in this world, our eating habits are notorious and our activity level is almost non-existent.  HECK most of us don't even drink water and our bodies consist of 85% water.  We suffer from high blood pressure, sugar diabetes, joint issues, cancers and all other types of aliments that could possible be linked to bad habits in life.  WHEN WILL WE WAKE UP????? I get tired of seeing people barely able to walk for any extended period of time, it hurts me when I see kids so obese that their arms cannot...
